Sonia Bohonis Luciow, age 100,of Trees Mills, formerly of Slickville, passed away August 25,2023. She married the late George P. Luciow of Slickville on June 6,1947 (D-Day, so he would remember). Sonia was born on a farm outside of Slickville on March 3, 1923, where she has gone "home" to be greeted by her father, brothers, sister and has met the mother she hardly knew. She's free to milk the cows, eat pears from the best pear tree around, and sit on the banks of the Beaver Run Creek to listen to the music from Joe Beaver's Dance Hall. She was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox church in Slickville, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was secretary of St. Olga's Sisterhood. Sonia's pirohi dough was the reason so many people came to the monthly pirohi sales at the church. She was also a member of Slickville American Legion Post 18 Ladies Auxillary. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Rose (Starenchak) Bohonis, brothers John, Boris, Merle, and infant Steve, and sister Mary Magee. She is survived by son Gregory (Wendy) Luciow and their children Aaron and Tania, and daughter Karen Lobodinsky and her sons Jacob and Jesse and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Westmoreland County Food Bank, 100 Devonshire Drive, Delmont Pa 15626 (because Mom was always worried that you had enough to eat) or Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Box 3, 714 Westmoreland Ave., Slickville, Pa. 15684. The family would like to thank Excela Hospice, especially Amber, Ashley, Erica and Sandy. You're the best. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm at Wolfe von Geis Funeral Home, 5701 Lincoln Ave, Export, PA 15632. There will be a Parastas service at 7pm.
