Margaret "Peggy" Bair

Margaret “Peggy” Bair age 58 of Bowie MD, formerly of Greensburg died Sunday, September 25, 2016. She was born August 12, 1958 in Greensburg a daughter of Patricia “Pat” (Fink) Bair and the late Joseph L. Bair, Jr. She graduated from Greensburg Salem High School in 1976. Peggy started flute lessons in elementary school and later added cello and piano. She also took lessons from Jack Irwin, Nancy Maurer, John Schietroma and Ethan Stang, a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony. She graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University with a bachelor of music degree in performance. She also attended St. John’s College, Annapolis, MD after her retirement in 2014 where she attained a master of arts in liberal arts. Peggy served thirty years in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Navy Band, Washington, D.C., performing as principal flutist and concertmaster with the Concert Band. She retired in 2009 with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. In retirement she performed with the Bellini Ensemble, the West Virginia Grand Military Band and the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. Peggy was preceded in death by her father Joseph L. Bair, Jr. in 2015. She is survived by her beloved husband Aaron Porter, loving mother Patricia “Pat” Bair, devoted sisters Mary Kathleen Bair Peddigree, Patricia “Patti” Bair Meszaros and her husband Joe and AFS exchange student sister Kannikar Yantabutr of Bangkok, Thailand. She is also survived by five nephews; Shane, Mitchell (Karly), Zakary Meszaros, Christopher and Joseph Bair. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6:30 at the Wolfe-von Geis Funeral Home, Inc., 5701 Lincoln Ave., Export, (724) 327-1400.
