Joseph C. Skandera, Sr. age 82 0f Export died Saturday, October 17, 2015 in William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. He was born March 15, 1933 in Export a son of the late Paul and Ann (Kapera) Skandera. Joe was a retired Brick Layer who taught Masonry skills at the Connelly Skill Learning Center. He was a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Mr. Skandera was an avid hunter, fisherman and was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Export. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Brothers; Edward and Paul Skandera; 2 sisters, Katie Bush and a twin sister, Mary Skandera. Joe is survived by his beloved wife; Evelyn (Butcher) Skandera; 4 loving children, Judy (Gary) Liss of Harrison City, Karen Skandera of Export, Joseph (Barrett) Skandera, Jr. of York and Elaine (Jeff) Lopez of Monroeville; 3 cherished Grandchildren, Laurie Shipley, Sarah Antonucci, Alyssa Lopez and an adored Great Grandson Lucas Antonucci. Also many nieces and nephews and cousins. Friends are welcome at the Wolfe-von Geis Funeral Home, Inc., 5701 Lincoln Ave., Export (724) 327-1400 Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, Export with Father Joseph Bonafed as celebrant. Interment will follow with military honors accorded by the Greensburg V.F.W. Post 33 Honor Guard in Grandview Cemetery, Export.
