Isador Slongo Obituary

Isador Anthony Slongo “Izzy” age 85 of Export, passed away in his home surrounded by his daughters on January 18, 2022. Isador was born on November 12th 1936 in Export, to parents Peter Joseph Slongo and Elizabeth Ann Slongo (Delose).  Isador grew up in Export and graduated from Export High School. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  After base camp, Izzy was shipped to the territory of Alaska where he served the bulk of his time. These were some of the most memorable times of his life evidenced by the countless stories of the land, culture, wildlife and comradery he experienced. Isador married his wife Millie in 1966 and together they made their home in Export and raised four children. Isador retired from both Westinghouse and the United States Postal Service with over 20 years of service with each. He delivered mail in Export and Greensburg. Izzy always had a big vegetable garden and grew enough garlic to keep the whole family stocked every year. He was a great cook and baker.  He always had a story and something delicious to share from his kitchen even if you arrived unannounced. Izzy was a sports fan and loved to watch baseball, football and boxing whenever he could. He had many dogs over the years but none were as special to him as his dog Susie who was his loving companion for many years. He will also be missed by all the birds and wildlife that made his yard their home and who he enjoyed watching daily. Isador is survived by his sister Sylvia Slongo of Export, PA, daughters Danielle McClain (Alan) of Big Sky, MT, Lisa Slongo of Leechburg, PA, Sondra Lee Figura (Stephen) Slippery Rock, PA and Stephanie Lynn Slongo of Missoula, MT.  Grandchildren Nathan Isador McClain and Greta Jane McClain of Big Sky, MT and Brice Anthony Figura of Slippery Rock, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Millie Lee Slongo, son Keith Anthony Slongo and devoted dog Susie. We are very grateful for the compassionate and professional care provided to Isador by Bridges Hospice in his last days.
