Dolores Speer Obituary

A lifelong resident of Export, Dolores Speer passed away on July 14, 2022. Born on March 22, 1930, to the late Desee and Elizabeth (Dimuzio) Trabucco, Dolores is survived by her husband of 70 years, Alex, and their children, Deborah (late Dennis) Bryson and David (Debra). She was also the loving Moomoo to grandchildren Colby (Carolyn), Alexa (Sonny) Pinto, and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren Jax, Lawson, and Bryn. A sister, Rosalind (Jim) Cavalancia, and numerous nieces and nephews survive her as well. Dolores was predeceased by her siblings: John (Dino), Mary, Joseph, Theresa Vrooman, Frank, and Mary Ann Stimmell. Her son-in-law, Dennis Bryson, also preceded her in death in 2020.

Dolores worked as a playground aide and a junior high cafeteria manager for many years before semi-retiring to care for her grandchildren Colby and Alexa. She later resumed her work life at Christopher’s Sweet Shoppe, always honoring her standard of perfection in whatever she pursued. A devoted parishioner at St. Mary’s from birth, she donated countless hours there as well, never refusing to share her time or her talents.

In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed baking, cleaning, and spectator sports. A dedicated Pirates fan, she often lamented the team’s woes but rarely missed a game. Her favorite sporting events by far, though, were those involving family—first, cheering on David and later, Colby and Alexa. She had hopes of following her great-grandchildren’s sports careers and reveled in the precursors, their many action-packed videos. During Dolores’s last year at her daughter’s house, she spent her time baking with her daughter, sharing and editing her many recipes, and finally relaxing while someone else cared for her.

Viewing will be Sunday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00, followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s on Monday at 10:00 a.m. All are asked to please wear a mask for both the viewing and the funeral.
