Brando Sachet

Brando Sachet, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018. He was born July 4, 1925, in Ebensburg (Revloc). In 1929, his family moved to Export for work at Westmoreland Coal Company's Export Mine. In the fall of 1943, while a senior in high school, having turned 18 in July, he was drafted and entered the Army in January of 1944. His World War II service took him to England, France, Belgium and Germany. In the Battle of Hurtgen Forest in the Ardennes, he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart, among other military decorations. When he returned home, he worked at Jeannette Glass. He was recalled to service for the Korean War and served with the First Cavalry Division in Korea and Japan. Following the Korean War, he was employed at General Motors Dravosburg Stamping Plant, where he retired after 30 years of service. He enjoyed walking and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a member of VFW Post 33 in Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rocco and Giovanna Sachet, who immigrated from Santa Giustina (Salmenega) Italy, in the early 1900's. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Marianna Wuslich, Mary Silk, Elna Lobb and Julia Mongrain, and brother, Bruno. Brando, his brother, Bruno, and sister, Julia, a nurse, all served in the Army throughout England and Europe during World War II. Brando leaves his nephews and nieces, Ray Wuslich, of North Huntingdon, Gary Wuslich, of Granger, Ind., Alan Lobb and Janice Mechling, of Kittanning, Joann Barron, of Belle Vernon, and Lisa Mongrain, of Jacksonville, N.C. his family expresses their appreciation to the staff at New Haven Senior Living Home in Hannastown, along with Dr. Joseph Gall. As well, special thanks to the caring nurses and staff from Medi Home Hospice for their compassionate support provided to Brando. A private family service with military honors will be held in Export, where arrangements are being handled by the WOLFE-VON GEIS FUNERAL HOME, Export. Military honors will be accorded by Greensburg VFW Post 33.
