Bertha Mediate, age 97, of Export, passed away peacefully at home on November 20, 2025. She was born March 4, 1928 in Export, the daughter of the late Ivan and Barbara Mance. Bertha was member of St. Mary Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in Export and the Croation Fraternal Union of America. She met her husband Anthony while working at Mance’s Store in Export and was known as the “barefoot waitress” at her mother’s bar (Mance’s Hall). Her faith and her family were her priorities in life, and she was never happier than when surrounded by her loved ones. Unless when you mentioned Dairy Queen to her. Bertha loved to travel, bake, crochet, listen to polka music, play cards (where she frequently changed the rules and claimed she wasn’t cheating), having her bookies play the lottery for her and celebrating her favorite holiday, Easter. While she never claimed to have a favorite child or grandchild, we can make some educated guesses. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Mediate, late father Ivan Mance, mother Barbara (Paulich) and step-father Mike “Shaner” Durisko, brother Carlo Mance and grandson Robert Anthony Mediate. Survived by her children, Joseph (Vicki) Mediate, Tony (Florence) Mediate, Bob (Janice) Mediate, Adele (Kevin) Judson (favorite son-in-law) and John (Dana) mediate. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She always reminded us, stay safe and well. Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Wolfe-von Geis Funeral Home, Inc., 5701 Lincoln Ave., Export. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 4, 2025 in St. Mary Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Export at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Latin American Children’s Fund at www.lacfund.org. To offer online condolences, send flowers or for directions, please visit www.wolfe-vongeis.com
